With decades of expertise and a deep, personal commitment to perinatal loss, Dr. McCarthy will share invaluable insights into the emotional, psychological, and practical aspects of supporting clients through one of the most challenging experiences they may face. In this training, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of how to recognize and respond to the needs of those experiencing perinatal loss, equipping you with the tools and knowledge to provide compassionate, effective care. Dr ANTHONY MCCARTHY, FRCPsych, FRCPI, MSc Psychotherapy, DCH is recently retired from his post as Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles St, after 28 years. He was previously a Consultant Psychiatrist at St Vincents University Hospital and Clinical Director for Dublin South East Mental Health Services. Prior to returning to Dublin, he was Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for Adult Mental Health at Guy’s Hospital London UK. He was a founding member and former President of the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland. He was also a member of the Registration Committee of the Medical Council of Ireland , and the Antidoping Committee of the Irish Sports Council. He did a psychoanalytic training and got his Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from UCD in 1986. He also trained in Cognitive Analytic Therapy In London under the supervision of Dr Anthony Ryle.

with Marian Ó Tuama, Chairperson of the Irish Fertility Counsellors Association

Infertility is a challenge that affects many individuals and couples, often leaving them searching
for answers and support. In this training, Marian O Tuama, Psychotherapist and Chairperson of The Irish Fertility Counsellors Association, provides a foundational understanding of infertility, addressing key questions: What is infertility? How is it diagnosed? What are the treatment options available to patients? What are the psychological and emotional impacts of infertility and fertility treatment? Knowledge of fertility challenges is an essential component of good perinatal mental healthcare, come join us!
Marian is a psychotherapist specialising in fertility counselling. She is a graduate of the Munster Technological University and the Royal College of Surgeons. She is an accredited member, and current chairperson, of the Irish Fertility Counsellors Association (IFCA). She works as a specialist fertility counsellor with the Waterstone Clinic where she offers implications counselling for people who are accessing donor treatments and supportive counselling for clients undergoing all forms of fertility treatment. Marian also has a private practice in Cork city. Marian has a particular interest in perinatal loss and bereavement.
